“Previously located in the buzz of Pop Brixton but now in our new location at Coldharbour Lane, we conjure up traditional Sicilian recipes combining the best of local produce and hospitality. By getting to know our local suppliers in Brixton Market, we have been able to find great ingredients at good prices. When unavoidable, we import produce from Sicily, direct from producers we have personally met and checked. Vegetables and oily fish are our staples, together with fresh herbs and olive oil. Our pasta flour comes from Molini del Ponte, Castelvetrano, Sicily. They pioneer the cultivation of non-hybrid, traditional durum wheat with a low gluten content, which also happens to be organic.”

Cornish sardines with orange zest, pine nuts, raisins, and toasted breadcrumbs; Braised Cornish octopus with lemon, salt, and pepper; and cinnamon sfingette (baby doughnuts), with sweetened sheep’s ricotta and bitter chocolate drops.

Stefi Taormina is one of the most passionate and dedicated people we have encountered in putting this guide together. At the time of writing, located in a brilliant short-term pop-up in the crazy higgle-piggle of shipping containers that is Pop Brixton, Franzina Trattoria somehow seemed to distil all the excitement and honesty of plain Sicilian peasant food into affordable plates of unbelievably delicious plates of pasta that are accessible to almost everyone.

Franzina Trattoria have now moved into their new, permanent location in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton.
