Great Queen Street

What they say

“Situated in the heart of London, at Great Queen Street we’re mad about hospitality and service. We create delicious dishes from seasonal and mostly organic produce, and have a wide range of natural wine on the list. All our fish is from dayboats and sustainably caught, and we support non-intensive farming. We support local, small scale, and native but as much for the quality as for anything else. It’s all naturally part of our thinking to be as environmentally sound as we can, and we make sure our staff meet gender equality and non-discriminatory employment policies.”

Signature Dishes

Lamb sweetbreads with pea purée and mint; pot roast beef shin with chips and horseradish for two; and roast suckling pig shoulder with choucroute and horseradish for three.

What we say

This wonderful, cosy, vibrant restaurant emerged in 2007 out of The Anchor and Hope, with its giant sharing pots, hearty English style, no-reservations policy, and messianic approach to great food. Covent Garden was a gastronomic wasteland then, but GQS started the ball rolling – for which we can all be grateful. The cooking is ballsy and heroic, the atmosphere is upbeat late-Victorian (think Dr. Watson on his night off, tucking into a rib of beef and a flagon of claret with some old med-school pals), and the location is second to none.
